Today while I was working on updating our boudoir blog with new boudoir galleries, I received a call from a lovely women named Theresa. She immediately stumbled on her words when trying to explain she wanted to have sexy boudoir photos of herself because she has recently lost weight.

Most people who call are just like Theresa, their a little shy or embarrassed to explain what has driven them to make this call. After immediately ensuring her that I can relate we formed a connection and went on to have a twenty minute conversation about everything from boudoir pictures and  healthy foods to hotel resorts and my brothers fitness trainer! I love hearing our clients reasons for booking a boudoir or glamour session with us.

During our conversation she revealed her confessions of wanting to feel and look sexy again. She weighted about 295 pounds at one point and is now almost down to her ideal weight. She only has twenty five pounds left to go. I said “You Go Girl”! Not in those words exactly. I commended her on her weight loss success and told her about my own demons of the yo yo weight loss and gain dehlima I’ve had to struggle with also. Luckily the most I’ve ever gained was 35 pounds but I know all weight is hard to lose. She is going to book a boudoir photo shoot with us and would love to reserve her spot for our famous “Ocean View Boudoir Photo Shoot” coming up in May 9-12, 2013 in Santa Barbara.

Although she wants to loose that last twenty five pounds first, I have to say that any good boudoir photographer can take twenty five pounds off you just by posing and lighting you correctly. Another way to loose 25 pounds during your boudoir photo shoot is to bring the right outfits. As you may or may not know by now, I love posting boudoir confessions from clients who call in to book a boudoir photography session with our female boudoir photographer Denise. One reason I love posting their confessions is because I’ve seen it help other women who may be on the fence about wether or not to book a boudoir photo shoot. When they get to read other boudoir clients stories it helps them to realize that they are not alone in their personal situation, challenges, fears or reasons for wanting a boudoir photo shoot.

We’ve had all kinds of boudoir confessions over the years from women who need to feel sexy again after their tummy tuck, to women who are just trying to get that engagement ring and, boudoir photo’s have sealed the deal for them. We particularly love hearing those stories!

Well we received a call this week from a women in Hawthorne California who was on our mailing list. She said she had been on our list for awhile and had been following our boudoir work and receiving our specials for years. This is typical believe it or not, a lot of our fans might not book their session until five or even ten years later. But eventually they call.

Their reasons for waiting though are always the same, they waited to build up the courage first, their nervous, they needed the confidence to be photographed in lingerie or to loose weight, which usually never happens. We get it, it’s not the easiest appointment to make. You feel like your going to the gynocologist but without having met him or her before.

I’m getting off track here a bit so let me get back to our call from our Hawthorne client. She was a lovely women and our conversation flowed on for at least 15 minutes. She explained how she wants to take sexy boudoir photo’s for her husband of twenty years. Yep you read it right, 20 years of marriage and still keeping spice in their marriage. After we booked her appointment she went further to say that she married her childhood sweetheart but after twenty years of marriage they got divorced. That’s the sad part but it gets better!

After being divorced for a few years they actually found their way back to each other and have since renewed their vows or I guess re-married. She was very happy on the phone about this and I could hear it in her voice. She was very proud to confess to us her reason for booking her boudoir photo shoot.

Now we can’t wait to meet her next week and help her to give her new husband (for the second time) a beautiful gift of love he’s sure to appreciate.

For a lot of women, hiring a boudoir photographer is not something they have done before. Usually its their first time thinking about or having to book a boudoir photo shoot.

One reason for this is because these days a lot of women book a boudoir photographer to shoot their sexy boudoir pictures as their wedding gift to the groom. And hopefully they only get married once!

Other women at a later age have just come into their sexuality and would have never dreamed of being photographed in such a sexy and revealing way before.

And then there are the shy, conservative women who just wouldn’t have ever done such a thing as hiring a boudoir photographer to photograph them in lingerie and sexy poses. But then found they needed to do something outside the box, outside their normal hum drum life.

Most girls will tell us “its their first time” and they need a little guidance in this area. So we decided to help you out a bit by giving you the most important things to look for when hiring a boudoir photographer.

Boudoir Photographer-Top 10 Things To Look For:

1-Make sure they specialize in and are experienced in the genre of boudoir photography. Boudoir photography is a very difficult thing to photograph, well. There’s usually no clothes to hide behind so you want someone who has the experience to be able to photograph you with little to nothing on and still make every photo look great no matter what your size or body image is.

2-Find someone you are totally comfortable with. If your more comfortable with a women boudoir photographer than go with a women. There are plenty of female boudoir photographers out there today. If you feel you’d be more comfortable with a man then go for it as long as your partner doesn’t mind.

3-Ask as many questions as you’d like on the phone and you should get a sense of whether or not you’d be comfortable with that person. Did your conversation flow, did she answer all your concerns, did you feel a sense of rapport with her. You want to work with someone who you feel a connection with and whose only goal is to help you look your best.

4-Do they have a professional boudoir studio or are you going to have to be photographed in their home with kids and dogs running around or worse, outside in public areas only. If they don’t have a professional studio then they probably are a not licensed, professional photographer. Instead their more likely to be someone who got a digital camera for Christmas last year and their posing as a boudoir photographer. Photography is so much more than a camera. You must be artistic, creative, educated in various photography lighting techniques and experienced.

5-Do they have a website with galleries and portfolios for you to view extensive years of work? If you contact what you think is a boudoir photographer and they send you to their Facebook page or Myspace their probably not a professional. An experienced, professional boudoir photographer will have a website, blog, reviews, actual customer testimonials and more. Read them, its important!

6-Now this ones a hard one to accept but very true all the same. Are they willing to give away their work? If they are willing to photograph you and give you all your photo’s on a CD for dirt cheap or free then remember, “You get what you pay for”! Since those photo’s are worthless to them they probably will be worthless to you too! A great photographer never gives away their work. They work hard for you and value their time and talent and your should too.

7-Variety is key, Is there a nice variety of photos in their galleries? Their website galleries should be filled with different types of boudoir photo sets from in the studio and outdoors to on the beach and hotel shots. You should be able to distinguish high key and low key lighting. (Meaning bright white sets to dark and dramatic.) That’s usually a clue that they know how to use lighting. They should also have photo’s of different types of women, plus size, model types and us average every day women. If their site only displays girls in their twenties that look like models then they most likely do hire models and your photo’s will look completely different then theirs.

8-Its very important that your boudoir photographer is going to help you every step of the way. From giving you tips long before your big day to helping you dress, pose and choose the right outfits that will flatter your body type.

9-Are you getting value out of your paid boudoir photo shoot? “What comes with your package or special” is a question you want to ask. Do they give military discounts, group discounts for bridal parties or groups of girlfriends. Some professional boudoir photographers have discounted pricing on social media sites. If your on a tight budget try and book your session during these specials, also sign up and follow all their social media sites so you don’t miss out.

10-Are all their photos retouched and put through Photoshop. If the answer is yes they must retouch all their photo’s, then they do not know how to edit in the camera. You don’t want to hire a boudoir photographer who must retouch every single photo in order for them to look good! A good boudoir photographer does not need to retouch all their photo’s. If they know how to use their equipment, light you and pose you  then retouching should only be necessary for special effects or problem areas like braces and acne on your face.

So, there you have it! If your planning on hiring a boudoir photographer in your near future be sure and ask all these important questions first and more. Women have had some form of boudoir photography done for several decades and for several reasons. We will go over the top 10 reasons women love boudoir in a minute.

Women have been photographed in boudoir poses for many reason’s.
